The Challenge
Following the departure of the previous Data Protection Officer at Benenden Hospital, the decision was taken to ‘outsource’ the service to a third party, and DTIG was selected.
Given the level of support required by an organisation of our size, this was deemed to be the most cost effective and appropriate solution for our needs.
Part of the challenge that we needed someone to help with is:
- The wide-ranging data and information collected by the Hospital, from personal data to health data for patients to personal data of staff and consultants.
- The partnerships with other private providers, NHS and the need to work with suppliers.
The Solution
The solution sought was simple : outsourced (or virtual) Data Protection Officer Service.
Strategically
There was and is an obligation to comply with data protection legislation together with associated health care legislation applicable to independent hospitals.
The cost considerations of outsourcing versus employing a DPO inhouse were an important strategic factor, as was the level of training required to get anyone in-house up to speed with required DPO expertise and knowledge.
The Results
We have been very satisfied with the service and support provided by Debbie at DTIG.
We feel comfortable knowing that we have compliant policies and procedures. The challenges Debbie presented to us when we were looking at new software or marketing meant that we were can continue to ensure that we undertake appropriate due diligence and make considered decisions.
